Concerning the press releases by certain media that a male person has “fallen through“ the overpass under construction in the vicinity of the tunnel Straževica on the Belgrade Bypass, PE “Roads of Serbia“ is issuing the following announcement:
The event took place on bridge no. 15, before the tunnel Straževica, on the right side of the motorway.
The bridge is not under construction; it was built in 2012 when it was opened to traffic.
Early this morning, around 05:45, the night guard noticed a person on the bridge no.15 column, on the right side of the carriageway and immediately notified the police, who then called the ambulance and the Sector for Emergency Management (firefighters – rescuers). The firefighters reached the affected person, rescued him, and took him to the ambulance vehicle. According to the police patrol leader, the person in question had been earlier hospitalized in a secured facility (“Laza Lazarević“).
The person got into the bridge “box“ through the inspection shaft from the direction of Orlovača. While passing through the “box“, he entered the inspection shaft and ended up on the enclosed part of the bridge column, used for periodic inspection of the bridge bearing. Since there were no ladders, the person could not go back to the bridge box, because the height was more than 2 m.
At the same time, it was noticed that the lock on the inspection path door was broken and that 200m of electric cables from bridge no.15 were missing. The person that ended up on the bridge column was using the same path. A police investigation is currently underway.
