ASECAP STEERING COMMITTEE, 2016/2

From May 23 to May 25, 2016, the second session 2016/2 of the ASECAP Steering Committee was held in Madrid.

The main issue discussed on the session was the key role of motorways for providing integrated and sustainable mobility in Europe. Objective of ASECAP is to implement the EU transport strategy until 2020. In order to comprehend and meet the challenges regarding the implementation of the strategy, the session was the opportunity to think about the future of the transportation from the present international perspective.

COPER activities were marked by the presentations about toll and results concerning the ASECAP political manifesto in the area of concessions, as well as about traffic safety and drawing attention to two safety directives that affect the toll motorway companies.

Also, it was discussed about automated vehicles, role of infrastructure and the issue of radio frequencies. ASECAP will remain active in the C-ITS platform, where a number of ITS areas will develop as automated vehicles and smart infrastructure need to coordinate their activities in order for safety to remain high when in the future different vehicles (conventional and advanced) will need to be properly managed in the same traffic flows.

As always, results of work were presented. The Steering Committee agreed that cooperation would be necessary among the Secretariat and the COPERs to structure a more efficient data gathering system in ASECAP that would be comparable. Administrative and budgetary issues were also discussed.

One session was devoted only to the presentation of final results of the REETS project. It was discussed about the future of a unique European system for electronic toll collection based on the REETS projects.
